How the Formula Works
For simple interest: r = (A − P) ÷ (P × t). For compound interest: r = n × [(A/P)^(1/nt) − 1], where n is compounding frequency.
Simple: Rate = (Total Interest ÷ Principal) ÷ Time in years
Compound: Rate = n × [(Final/Principal)^(1/(n×t)) − 1]
APR = Annual Percentage Rate (does not include compounding)
