The Rebar Weight Calculator estimates the total weight of reinforcing steel bars (rebar) needed for your construction project based on bar size, length, and quantity. It helps with material ordering, transportation planning, and cost estimation for concrete reinforcement projects.
How the Formula Works
Weight = Length × Weight per linear foot × Quantity. Weight per foot varies by bar size: #3 = 0.376 lb/ft, #4 = 0.668 lb/ft, #5 = 1.043 lb/ft, etc.
How to Use This Calculator
Select the rebar size (bar number)
Enter the length of each bar
Enter the quantity of bars needed
View the total weight in pounds and kilograms
Tips & Best Practices
#4 and #5 rebar are the most commonly used sizes for residential foundations and slabs
Add 10–15% to your order for laps (overlap joints), waste, and cutting
Standard rebar lengths are 20 ft (6m) — factor overlap joints every 20 ft
Epoxy-coated rebar costs more but resists corrosion in exposed or high-moisture applications
Important Limitations
Does not calculate required rebar spacing or structural requirements — consult an engineer
Weights are nominal — actual weights may vary slightly by manufacturer
Does not include the weight of tie wire or chairs/supports
